Peer Counselor (PC) breastfeeding support is more critical now than ever before in the lives of our New York StateBreastfeeding Families. Our WIC PC’s and local agency staff are dedicated to assisting breastfeeding families with concerns and challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic by referring, as necessary, to the NYS Department of Health and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) websites:

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

Which includes subtopics:

  • Pregnant People Protecting Themselves Against COVID-19,
  • Risks to Pregnancy and the Baby,
  • Mother-to-child Transmission,
  • Breastfeeding if you have COVID-19, and,
  • Recommendations for Proper Pump Cleaning,

Some areas in New York State are offering virtual breastfeeding support groups/sessions, check with your local Breastfeeding Café’s, La Leche League programs, and Hospitals to find support for families near you.

The New York State Department of Health, WIC Program improves the health of pregnant women, new mothers and their infants and children. The foods provided through WIC are a good source of nutrients often missing from the diets of women and young children.
